Kiamichi Owa-Chito Festival of the Forest - 3rd Weekend in June

The Kiamichi Owa-Chito Festival of the Forest is held annually the third weekend in June. This festival is held in Broken Bow at the beautiful Beavers Bend Resort Park. The purpose of Kiamichi Owa-Chito, Inc. is to stage an annual Festival of the Forest in an effort to acquaint the people of Oklahoma and the world with the beauty, heritage, culture, industry and progress in Kiamichi Country.

The festival features forestry competitions that bring back memories of “the good ole days”! The spirit and heritage of the forest comes to life in the contest of men and women who make their living from the woods. Contests include double buck sawing, ax throwing, jack-n-jill crosscut, as well as other forestry events. A “Bull of the Woods" winner is selected from the field each year. New this year will be “Crew of the Woods." A large art show is one of the major components of the festival as well. New additions to this year’s festival are: All American Lumberjack Show and Kids Camp, Fiddle Contest and Miss Choctaw Owa-Chito.

Musical entertainment is prevalent throughout the three-day event. Musicians from all areas (gospel, bluegrass, country, Native American, jazz, and rock-n-roll) keep crowds entertained. Activities for the youth are also a major component. Children’s games are very popular.
