Kiamichi Owa-Chito Festival of the Forest

The Kiamichi Owa-Chito Festival of the Forest, a three-day event, is held annually the third weekend in June. This festival is held in Broken Bow at the beautiful Beavers Bend Resort Park. The purpose of Kiamichi Owa-Chito, Inc. is to stage an annual Festival of the Forest in an effort to acquaint the people of Oklahoma and the world with the beauty, heritage, culture, industry and progress in Kiamichi Country.

The festival features forestry competitions that bring back memories of "the good old days"! The spirit and heritage of the forest comes to life in the contest of men and women who make their life from the woods. Contests include double buck sawing, pole felling, ax throwing, jack-n-jill crosscut, as well as other forestry events. A "Bull of the Woods" winner is selected from the field each year. A large art show is one of the major components of the festival.

Musical entertainment is prevalent throughout the three-day event. Musicians from all areas (gospel, country, jazz and rock-n-roll) keep the crowds entertained. Activities for the youth are also a major component. Kiddie games are also very popular.
