Broken Bow Main Street
In 1997, a group of concerned citizens realized
that a healthy downtown is crucial to the heritage, economic health
and civic pride of the entire community. To turn the tide of disinvestment,
the citizens banded together and pursued the Oklahoma Main Street
Program, a division of the Department of Commerce. Due to the efforts
of these volunteers, in March 1998, Broken Bow became a designated
Main Street Town. The program is designed around a Four Point Approach
which includes elements of design, organization, promotion, and
economic restructuring.
Since the birth of Broken Bow Main Street, over
$800,000.00 has been reinvested in downtown! In addition to renovation
incentives, Main Street has also developed many successful promotional,
organizational and design projects. One of the most recent Main
Street projects is the Environmental Classroom which is located
around the Chamber of Commerce building. The Design Committee, along
with many volunteers, has created beautiful gardens that serve as
the gateway to downtown Broken Bow. One of the most popular events
is the Annual Cool Cars and Crazy Cones. This is held in conjunction
with the Beavers Bend Rod Run. Broadway street is blocked off for
a street dance, food vendors, games, dance contests, and the Mighty
Midget Car Race. Each calendar year is packed full of activities
which provide entertainment for all members of the family year round.
